Another Me at 23 in the 1950s | Guest Blog Series

The next installment of Another Me at 23 is here! I’m so glad to welcome Erin Williams to my lil blog as a guest poster! I love the era she chose if she could be 23 all over again in another age! Check it out! 🙂

Hey Y’all! I’m Erin, a freelance writer and marketing guru based in Mississippi– the heart of the south. Unlike sweet Laurel, I’m a bit new to the blog world and am still learning the ins and outs of my spot in cyberspace. So, when I recently got a text from Laurel about guest-posting on her blog, I couldn’t have felt more honored. Laurel is such a sweet pea.

Anywho, I just turned 24 less than two months ago so this topic was a fun one for me to answer. A time period I’ve always wished I were born in is EASILY the 1950s. In America the 1950s was, and is still, known as The Golden Age.

WWII was over, the economy was flourishing, manufacturing and employment were at an all-time high, women stayed at home and maintained the household, doors didn’t have locks on them, kids actually played outside more than they played inside, everyone hung American flags on their front porches, retro clothing was fashionable and modest, and kitchens were pink. It almost sounds too good to be true to an old-fashioned gal like myself.

Although I love learning and obtaining a degree, I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t love to stay at home, raise my (one-day) kids, bake pies with REAL sugar and butter (and not be ashamed about it), and wear red lipstick all day long. What can I say? I’m an old old soul. 🙂

I’m sure most of us enjoy imagining life in another day and age, but, even then, I’m sure those days were filled with challenges as well. Because I was born in the 90s instead of the 50s, there’s no sense in dreaming about the past.

But then again, maybe we’d all be a little bit better if we channeled our own June Cleavers, Julia Childs, Barney Fifes, and Fred Astaires more often. Who knows… While we can’t live in the past, we can definitely learn from it! Anymore old souls out there? I’d love to hear from you!

Laurel, you are so kind to have me! Thanks, y’all!
