Several weeks ago, Price and I took a trip to Charleston, South Carolina for a little Christmas get away and I cannot stop thinking about how much I love that city! It was absolutely beautiful…

It was my second time to visit (my first trip was somewhat short and it was back when I was in college), and it was Price’s first, so most of what we did, saw, and ate was brand new to both of us!

We stayed at a beautiful, old, artsy hotel called The Vendue which we LOVED! The rooms were semi small, but not too small! And the location was absolutely perfect. We walked almost everywhere!

The hotel had a great, upscale restaurant in it called The Drawing Room where we ate supper our first night in town. It was fantastic! My favorite aspect of the hotel was the fact that they served milk and cookies every night at 9:00! So there were several nights where we were actually at or near the hotel at this time and could take advantage of some yumminess!

Speaking of yumminess… We did not eat a single bad bite in Charleston. Everywhere we went was a recommendation from a friend or from the concierge and we were not steered wrong one single time! There is some GREAT eating in this town! A few of the highlights were…

Slightly North of Broad (or SNOB as everyone calls it)…

I particularly loved the black bean soup! Beware, though– it was a tad spicy! 🙂

Hominy Grill

We loved the brunch served here! This was not really within walking distance from the hotel, so we had to take an uber over! Totally worth it.

Magnolias

We ate lunch here our first day if I remember correctly! Loved every bite! The cream cheese butter for their bread will make you SO happy… This I can promise!

Monza Pizza

Really fun atmosphere and really good pizza! Loved this place and would definitely go back!

Fleet Landing

Price LOOOOVED this place. He’s a big seafood fan. I am not, so I got the veggie pasta. It was great! But it’s probably more thrilling for oyster and fish lovers! One really fun aspect was that it is one of the few restaurants in the area actually on the water!

Toast

Excellent brunch/breakfast!

Although we did eat a ton, we did have time for other stuff too!

We rented a car for a day and drove out to Kiawah Island so Price could play golf there. It was absolutely breathtaking! I rode in the cart with him on what happened to be the prettiest day of the trip so it was just as much fun for me! The guys Price got paired with were really fun, so overall, it was an awesome day.

That was be being distracting…

Here are a few shots of scenery, which was also pretty distracting!! SO pretty!

One of the highlights of the day was that we saw not one but TWO bald eagles on one of the last holes! They were majestic! It was impossible to get close enough to get good pictures but here’s what I got…

If you look really closely, you can see one of their reflections in the water on the far left of the photo, then the other one is about a third of the way from the right side of the photo.

On the way back after golf, we decided it would be fun to go by James Island to see the Christmas light display. It’s apparently one of the largest in the world, which apparently made it extremely well known. Since we are such Christmas lovers, we thought it would be no big deal to wait an hour or so to get in.

Well… THREE hours later… My driver is still insistent on sitting in traffic so we can see this effing light show. By this point I’m way over it. I would’ve pulled out of the stand still traffic two hours ago. But there was no convincing ol’ Price that our time would be better spent eating or walking around downtown… So we continued to wait. Finally we made it in to see the lights. It’s like a 2 or 3 mile drive with (yes, I will admit) some pretty cool light displays everywhere you look. Was it worth the over three hour wait? I’m still asking myself that question. Would I do it again? Probably not. But am I glad we did it? Now that we are weeks removed from the situation, yes, I guess I am glad! hah! It was fun. And being in the car with Price for that long really was fun. As much as I wanted to be in a bad mood, he kept me laughing the whole time so it was time well spent 🙂

If you do go to see this light show on a visit to the area, I recommend asking around and trying to find a day/time where it’s not as crowded and trying to go then. Because it really is impressive!

Another cool thing we did was a ferry ride over to Fort Sumter. If you’re a Civil War buff, this is a must! It was really neat! I do recommend bringing an extra layer for the ferry ride over because, even if it isn’t that cold outside, once that boat gets moving, you’re gonna freeze! I would’ve enjoyed the trip more if I’d been a tad more comfortable.

Love love love Charleston! We went several years ago and it was amazing. We stayed at the Francis Marion near King Street and it was so fantastic. We had such good food. But you are SO much better a wife than me. I would have been like Heck no I’m not riding in a golf cart with you! Drop me off on King Street and I’ll see you in 5 hours!
