I have a party trick that I’ve been pulling out a lot recently. I think the reason I keep pulling it out is because it always goes over so well!

Lately, when asked to sign up to bring a food item to a party or gathering, I’m the first one to jump on the dessert so I can prepare these cookies. They look like they took a lot of time, but they don’t take nearly as long as they look like they would!

So what’s my trick?

Head to your nearest Kroger, Wal-Mart, or Fresh Market and grab a tub of their mini pre-made sugar cookies. (If you don’t have one of these stores close by, I feel sure most supermarkets have pre-made sugar cookies in their bakery section!)  While you’re there, go ahead and grab some fun sprinkles and the ingredients for a super simple homemade buttercream frosting: powdered sugar, butter (I like salted), and vanilla extract. I have been using this recipe, but I completely omit the whipping cream it calls for. I find that the texture is so much better without it!

Your cookies are made, your frosting is about 3 minutes from being whipped to perfection using that recipe I linked to, and now it’s all just fun!

Once your frosting is made, pour your sprinkles into shallow dishes and have those handy. Smear the frosting generously onto each cookie, then dip the frosting side of each cookie into the sprinkle containers and roll around the edges a tad until the top of your cookie is fully covered. You end up with a beautiful, festive, and most of all DELICIOUS dessert that people won’t be able to stop eating!

The key here is the buttercream frosting. It adds just the right homemade touch to make people think all of it was homemade! 🙂

Also, feel free to get creative with your toppings! One of the toppings I used here was some green coconut shavings. I’ve used chocolate shavings in the past too. And I think some chopped up nuts might be really nice mixed with some chocolate shavings! You can use these handy little cookies to really help execute a great color story at a party, or especially a bridal or wedding shower if y’all have a specific color theme.

Have fun with it and go to your next party with confidence that you are taking an awesome dessert that really didn’t take you long at all to make! (And BONUS, if you’re anything like me– it was FUN to make!) 🙂

Thank y’all so much for stopping by today. It means the world!! Have a GREAT day! XO!
