Deep South Wood

I recently got the pleasure of getting a private guided tour through a really neat shop located in Canton, MS! The name of the place is Deep South Wood, and through a connection of some friends, I got connected with these talented people!

Deep South Wood, a custom furniture company that just opened in March of 2015, is located right by the railroad tracks in Canton and is half showroom, half workshop! The showroom is headed up by my friend’s sister Kelsey Givan, while owner and head craftsman Matthew Smith (who has been into wood working for about 10 years) stays busy in the workshop making custom awesomeness out of gorgeous wood.

While Kelsey was walking me around the showroom, my eye was immediately drawn to all of the cut-out-of-the-middle-of-a-tree looking pieces, which, come to find out, are called live edge pieces. The wall filled with gorgeous live edge slabs and the live edge coffee tables were particularly calling out to me!

Breath taking, right?! I’m dreaming of getting a little live edge coffee table for Price’s man room… I think it would look SO good!

And after walking through the workshop and seeing a huge island top that was being finished, I suddenly decided that I needed a wooden-topped island in our kitchen! It was so pretty… And they make those all the time! They even have a section in their showroom giving you an idea of stain options for that very thing!

After walking around with Kelsey and talking with Matthew, it was easy to see their passion for making unique, high-quality pieces for your home that will last long enough for your grand kids to get to use in their homes! That’s what you call heirloom quality!
