Du Iz Tak?

Du Iz Tak? What language is this book in?”

That was my exact response to my friend over at Candlewick Press when she asked me if I’d be interested in reviewing the children’s book Du Iz Tak? “I know you’re a fan of Carson Ellis,” my friend said, which she knew since we partnered on this fun giveaway for one of my favorite kiddo books ever, Home, “and she has a new kids’ book out that I bet your babies would love! It’s called Du Iz Tak?

Cue my aforementioned response.

She told me that it was a picture book that used a made up language. “Oh got it! Sounds fun! Send it on!” I replied to her.

This book is beautiful, imaginative, and just straight up FUN! Since the words are in a made up language, when you’re reading the nonsense (and initially feeling a bit silly), you can see your kids’ imaginations coming to life! They are able to decide what they think is being said, and it’s truly just adorable! The more we read this book, the more my babies (Wilson, particularly) add more and more detail to everything that is happening in this inventive little story.

The story includes damselflies, spider webs, the growth of a flower in which the featured community of bugs builds a pretty cool fort (complete with lounge chairs and refreshing drinks!), and a roly poly’s beautifully decorated log home, to name just a few of my personal favorite features! 🙂

This is so cool! I love things that push kids to be creative. Being pregnant with our first kid, Peter and I were talking just the other day about memories we have with our parents reading to us and the children’s books we love and want to share with our kids. This sounds like one of those that Wilson will love forever and have the best memories of his awesome parents!!!
