Feed Your Hair

After partnering with Colorize Hair Studio and really learning a lot more about hair care, I wanted to share a few hair health tips that I’ve picked up over the past couple of months on a few less traditional ways to keep your hair looking its best all summer long!

After breastfeeding Wilson for a few months, I started noticing that it was affecting my hair, so incorporating these nuggets of wisdom into my routine have really made a difference in what was beginning to turn into a scalp of straw! (Which, by the way, was totally worth the sweet bonding time between me and my little dude! But if I can get back to prettier hair, then I definitely am going to!)

I asked Leah, owner of Colorize, what I should eat to make my hair grow longer faster and she said I need to up my protein intake. I’ve been making a point of incorporating more lean meats, greek yogurt, protein shakes (I love Shakeology!), raw almonds, and these yummy protein bars (minimally processed and almost all natural!) into my eating routine!

I’ve also read that upping your Omega-3 intake is great for hair shine. Since fish seem to be the best source of this fatty acid, and I don’t really like fish, I’m all about an O3 supplement!

I’ve been doing a lot of reading on the health benefits of Coconut Oil lately, and as it turns out, it is GREAT for your mane! It actually aids in preventing protein loss, which we already talked about helping your hair, but when applied topically, it helps keep your hair hydrated and shiny. I’ve done this before bed then slept with my hair in a ponytail on nights before I shower. I can definitely tell a positive difference! I’ve been using this organic, unrefined Coconut Oil and I really like it. I’ve been putting it into tea lately, too, which I can’t wait to tell y’all about soon!

(And I still use this overnight moisturizer every night. You can only buy it at Colorize around here and it is UH-MAZING! For serious.)

Since it’s officially Summer and we are all going to the beach and spending a lot more time outside, it’s so important to protect your hair – and scalp! – from the sun! Especially if you color your hair. UV rays can mess up chemical processing done on the hair according to this helpful article! One of the easiest ways to protect from the sun is with a cute hat! How cute is this one for the beach? And you can never go wrong with this classic cutie, a fun scarf like this one, or this fun little dude!

Do you have any go-to hair care tips? I would love to hear! And I hope you guys have a GREAT weekend!!!

Great tips! Curly hair is naturally dry, so I’m always looking for ways to keep it healthy and fight the frizz. It sounds like Mary-Straton and I have similar philosophies 😉
