I have recently landed upon a formula for getting the best sleep that I wanted to share with all of you! Isn’t it fitting that May is actually Better Sleep Month?!

We all know how important great sleep is. Some of us require more than others (I’m one who functions so much better with at least 7 hours a night), and the better quality sleep we experience, the better we feel throughout the day! I know when I have a bad night of sleep, it’s pretty impossible to reach my full potential the next day, no matter how hard I try (or how much coffee I drink!)

With some recent unexplained neck and shoulder pain and some massage therapy and physical therapy to help it out, I finally realized that (although those two therapies did feel great and help some), the problem was with how I was sleeping. My massage therapist actually asked me how I was sleeping and I told her it could be better. She suggested maybe trying a different pillow.

Well, lo and behold, about that same time, I was given the opportunity to try out a BEDGEAR pillow. BEDGEAR has created a little quiz to help you figure out which type of their therapudic pillows is best for you. After taking this quiz, I was matched with a Freestyle 1.0 pillow. It has special head and neck support for stomach sleepers and also keeps a cooler temperature which allows for deeper sleep. I started sleeping on this pillow the day it arrived and honestly I’ve never gotten better sleep!

A few other things in addition to my lovely new pillow that help me feel like I’m getting the best sleep possible are…

An eye mask. I love this Holly Golightly inspired one! I got it with flannel lining so it feels really good on my face! And it keeps things pitch black, which is especially great if Price wants to work on his computer after I’m ready to go to sleep. I’ve heard that even the tiniest bit of light can keep you from getting proper rest.

Diffusing Lavender oil. I’ve never been super big into essential oils, but I’m starting to slowly become a fan. Especially of Lavender. It seems to have so many uses! My favorite use is for relaxation purposes. Having the scent of lavender in our room at night seems to help me fall asleep easier and deeper. (We’ve been loving this diffuser!)

… Staying well hydrated. I’ve always gone through spells where I’ll get foot and calf cramps in the middle of the night that totally interrupt my sleep. I hate them!! But over the years, I’ve discovered that on days where I drink plenty of water and keep my body super hydrated, I am wayyyy less likely to have those pesky cramps. I do try to start really slowing down on water drinking around supper so I’m not having to get up in the middle of the night to pee! 😉 But staying well hydrated has tons of benefits. Better sleep is just one of them!

White noise. We have a small little fan that is plugged in over by my side table that we let run constantly. It provides just the right hum to help us sleep really hard! I absolutely love it.

Saying your prayers. I always try to remember to say a prayer at night before falling asleep that God would give me sweet dreams and protect my mind from bad dreams! I know it sounds silly, but God has answered that prayer faithfully when I faithfully ask for His help! Nothing will ruin your sleep like a bad dream, right?! So just having a little chat with God about that is not a bad idea! 🙂

I am a major sleeper. I need like 9-10 hours. And I can sleep for freakishly long time. Pillows can really mess up your sleep! I got some sort of special neck pillow years ago and it made all the difference (also, getting a king size bed for me, Charlie and the dogs but that is a different story). I’ve never tried a diffuser with lavender oil, but I love taking a lavender epsom salt bath. And now, I really want a nap.
