My Boy

Hey y’all!

Happy New Year!!!

I know I’ve been MIA for a while, but as many of you know, Price and I welcomed a precious little baby boy to our family on December 5th! Wilson Hunt Donahoo is here and is such a little ray of sunshine for us! I thank God every time I put him down for a nap and every time I pick him up for blessing us with this little miracle. New life really is so amazing and miraculous!!! HOW did this HUMAN start from basically nothing and grow into a perfect little person inside my body over the course of nine months? Only God can do that… Only God. 🙂

Mr. Personality!

Mr. Personality!

I knew a long time ago that I probably wouldn’t be up for sharing all the details of my birth story on this here blog, so I’ll just hit the highlights!

Price and I went in for our 40 week check up on December 5th at 1:00, and after three blood pressure readings came back high (they had been normal all throughout my pregnancy until this visit), our doctor told us it was time to head to the hospital and have this baby. She did allow us to go home and grab our bags, but told us not to waste any time and to get to the hospital as soon as we could! We were there and I was hooked up to the monitors by about 3:00.

After a situation involving a balloon and no pain medication (I’ll spare you the details…), my doctor realized that I was 4 cm dilated (which she was unable to tell in the clinic due to the way my cervix is situated), so that was great!! We thought we might be starting from zero, so thankfully I was already progressing, and they started me on pitocin. Shortly thereafter came the epidural. Thank the Lord for good medicine…

I was comfortable and we watched Home Alone and The Holiday over the course of the evening/night while family members floated in and out to visit with us! Around 2 or 3 a.m., I started having really uncomfortable contractions, then right at 5 a.m. I started pushing! Price was so sweet and encouraging throughout all of this, by the way. So thankful for my awesome husband! And so thankful he’s forgiven me for yelling at him to quit touching me…

At 5:55 a.m., our little one arrived!! Pushing out a child is no easy feat, let me tell ya… Our doctor seemed a little surprised by how big this baby boy was! After they weighed him and found that he was 9 pounds, 12 ounces, I was floored that I’d been toting around such a big baby myself! I knew this child would be big, but not almost 10 pounds of big! He was 21.5 inches of cute, chubby loveliness! 🙂

He had to go to the nursery immediately after he was born because of that “wimpy white boy” situation where his lungs didn’t seem to be working quite at 100% yet, so I only got to hold him for about 20 seconds before they took him down the hall. Six hours later, at around noon, I finally got to love on my sweet little one (whose lungs were working great by that point, and have worked spectacularly since, as evidenced by some pretty powerful baby screams!) It was awesome. After that six hour wait, I was so ready to hold him!! The wait did, however, give us ample time to catch a nap. And thankfully my mama had a brush handy and was able to somewhat tame my sweaty hair and wipe the wayward eye makeup off my face before Wilson really saw me for the first time. I’d hate for his first impression of his mother to be such a scary one! 😉

Nice to meet you, sir :)

Nice to meet you, sir 🙂

He felt perfect in my arms 🙂

Our two-night stay at the hospital was great, due in large part to the awesome staff at Baptist Hospital. Shout out to Chelsea and Jennifer!

Since we’ve come home, we’ve learned just how hard parenthood is. But even though it’s hard, it’s ten times more wonderful and rewarding than I ever would have imagined! This little person depends on us for everything, which has a way of making a set of new parents feel pretty important! 😉

Price and I are SO THANKFUL for our little man (who is Price’s mini me by the way!) and we just fall more and more in love with him every single day! We couldn’t be more grateful. I know we’ve got a lot more awesomeness ahead!

Our 2014 ended on a high note and 2015 is already off to a great start! I hope your year is already off to a great start as well! What all do you have planned for the coming year? I’d love to hear!!

To 2015!

So glad your sweet baby (and you!) are doing well! I had that same balloon procedure when I had Emma, so I completely sympathize! It’s no picnic. I hope you and your family have a fantastic new year.
