Spooky Sangria

Dracula Sangria // perfect for your next Halloween party! // www.thehiveblog.com

So I’m part of this really fun little supper club that has been going for several years now! Every month, a different couple in the group hosts everyone else at their home for a night of food and fun! (We are split up into teams so, like, when we host, the two other couples who are geographically closest to me help divvy up the menu so all the cooking doesn’t fall on the host couple. It’s a good system!)

Anyway, Price and I hosted the October edition of Supper Club. The theme was Fall/Halloween, of course! šŸ˜‰ We had some fun spider web 7-layer dip, a delicious pumpkin butter, bacon, and cream cheese dip, some black spaghettiĀ with “brains” (sauce), “sliced eyeballs” (cut up olives with pimento), and “crushed bones” (parmesan), a lovely fall salad, some asparagus fingers, and for dessert, some dirt and worm cups dressed up to look like ghosts in the graveyard!

For the “house cocktail,” we did some Dracula Sangria! The original recipe called it Walker Blood Sangria (referencing The Walking Dead, which I do not watch), so I made a couple of changes, one of which included the name. Since Dracula says “I want to drink your blood,” and this sangria is created to look like blood, it just seemed like a fitting name! šŸ˜‰

This recipe makes a pretty good bit (about 30 servings), so it’s a good party recipe. It’s not super sweet, so it appeals more to people who don’t traditionally like sangria (read: my husband.) And the best part is, it is extremely simple. You literally just dump a bunch of stuff together!

— WHAT YOU NEED —

One magnum (or two standard bottles) of Merlot. (I used Woodbridge from Colony Wine Market!)

3 cups (24 oz.) Pomegrante Juice. (POM is my preferred brand by a LONG shot!)

3 cups (24 oz.) Unflavored Sparkling Water (like Pellegrino)

1/2 cup Cointreau Orange Liqueur (also from Colony Wine Market)

2 cups Orange Juice

— WHAT YOU DO —

Find something large to mix all of this stuff in. You have 15 cups of liquid!

Pour everything together (being sure not to completely de-bubble the sparkling water) šŸ™‚

Refrigerate for at least 12 hours so the flavors can really meld.

Serve as creatively as you can.

Enjoy! MWAAAAHAHAHAHAAA!

Serving tips: If you’re going for a themey/creepy vibe, I recommend serving this is a clear container so people can see how “bloody” it looks! The orange juice is what makes it a little more opaque and therefore blood-like! As far as how we served it at our party, I just happened upon some beakers andĀ Erlenmeyer flasksĀ at Michael’s on major sale, so I totally racked up on cool service ware! I got one of these Erlenmeyer flasks and one of these large beakersĀ for the extra sangria to be sitting out, but I went ahead and poured up several servingsĀ in these smaller beakers, which we used asĀ glasses! I rimmed the small beakers with red sugar just an a fun added effect.

I did also freeze an ice tray of sangria so I could put the frozen cubes in the pitchers of extra to keep those cold. Worked pretty well!

Here are some other fun options for similar service ware, should you be looking for something slightly different! šŸ™‚

I hope y’all had a great weekend of beautiful weather! We sure did šŸ™‚ Stay tuned later in the week for a little more from this supper club setup! Thanks a MILLION for stopping by today! šŸ™‚ XO!
