Two Mamas, One Shower

Baby showers! So much fun!

And being pregnant at the same time as your sister in law(s) makes it even more wonderful! It’s actually been so handy to be able to be able to shoot a message to the group text going between Katie, Mary Margaret, and myself asking “is it normal when…” or “are y’all blah, blah, blah like I am right now?!” It’s great to have close family members who get what you’re going through as you’re going through it! 😉

Since Katie and I go to the same church and have a massive family in common (my grandfather was one of 9 boys if that tells you anything about how big our extended Miller family is!), it’s been pretty easy (and convenient!) to have a couple of joint showers together for family and for church members! Since everyone is already in the same spot, why not celebrate both babies together instead of doing it all twice?!

FAMILY SHOWER

For our family shower, we invited (of course) all of the female Miller relatives we have in common (of which there were probably about 50!), then we each invited the ladies on the other side of our family trees to attend as well! It was so. much. fun! Since it was a big shower, and since so many people came from out of town, we opted not to open gifts (which would have taken forever, and could have made some guests feel a little awkward anyway, since every attendee understandably didn’t get a gift for both of us!) but rather to visit with everyone!

And my aunt (or maybe it was my grandmother? #pregnancybrain) had the awesome idea of going around the room and having each person tell how she was related to me and/or Katie! That was really fun, since there are some of Katie’s family members I’d only met once (and same for Katie!)

Lastly, my mama was in charge of decorations and she did a WONDERFUL job of gathering things from all of our childhoods and putting them around on tables.

I think my favorite aspect of the decor was the clothesline hanging above the drink station outside with baby outfits that the four of us wore as little ones! Such a cute idea!

Overall, it was a wonderful shower. We had the best time with our wonderful families!!!

CHURCH SHOWER

Our church shower was also just a heck of a good time. It was at the home of one of my favorite ladies in all of creation– Jill Ford! Not only is her home just stunning, but she is so hospitable, so laid back, and has been such a wonderful mentor for me throughout the years! Really, all of the hostesses have been such wonderful mentors!

One of the most fun parts about this shower for me was getting to design the invitations! Jill said I could do them if I wanted to, so I made them just how I wanted them! 🙂 Not every day you get to do something like that! 😉

The hostesses of this shower did an AWESOME job of keeping things elegant and simple, and they did something that Katie and I both LOVED! Since this, too, was a large shower and we really wanted to be able to visit with all of the guests, there were a few hostesses opening the gifts for us and putting them out on tables! (There was a Katie table and a Laurel table!)

This way, we could eat and visit, but we (and the guests) could see everything we got without us having to lift a finger! This kept it from being awkward for any guests who might only know one of us and brought a gift just for one, not both. At the end of the shower, Katie and I each had a list that the hostesses had made as they were unwrapping that had who gave us what, so thank you notes were a cinch! It was perfect!

Oh, and how cute are those flower necklaces that Jill made for us!? I loved mine so much that I dried it and have it hanging in our house! 🙂

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

It really has been such a blessing being pregnant, especially with both of my sisters. Really, it’s how God has shown me that this pregnancy is His perfect timing for Price and me. Last time just was not our time. Our miscarriage was so tough, and we learned so much through it, but having Him put me smack dab in the middle of Katie and Mary Margaret’s pregnancies (like 8 weeks to the day on both sides. Seriously. How perfect?!) is, as I take it, Him showing me that things could not have been more perfect if I’d tried. HE had to do that because there’s no humanly possible way for us to have planned this out so wonderfully!

I think that’s one of the reasons why I’m loving pregnancy so much! I feel good for the most part, I feel beautiful (it’s so weird to be admitting that but for some reason I feel like I can say things on here that I’m afraid to say in person!), and I know that since we have given this area of our lives to The Lord, he has blessed us with a healthy little one! It really just took us giving that part over to Him. More on that in another post on another day…. 🙂

Anyway, thank you so much for stopping in today! I hope you have a great day and that the weather wherever you are is as pretty as it is where I am! 🙂

XOXOXO!
