Hello! Welcome to my post about our annual “Ear Day” with Dempsey’s class! This is something we try to do at the start of each school year to educate Dempsey’s new classmates about those sweet little things on his head and how they work! 🙂

We love that our cochlear implant company, Medel, has an elephant mascot because, as God’s perfect detailing would orchestrate it, “Ear Day” typically happens on or around World Elephant Day!! I just love that the Elephant Day is always close to the beginning of the school year!

This year, we read the book that Medel provides its cochlear kids, which is about Mellie, the deaf elephant. Then we talked about the types of hearing loss (which are sensorineural, conductive, or mixed) and handed out some fun coloring sheets: One with an ear, labeled, and one with Mellie on it!

Then we took questions from the class and ate cookie cake! SHOUT OUT to my friend Jennie with Baked by Jennie. Not only was this cookie cake the absolute CUTEST, but it was quite possibly the best cookie cake I have EVER put in my mouth! Oh my word, it was delicious. You better believe I will be ordering more from dear Jennie!

At the end of the day, all the kids got these cute little elephant key chains to remind them of the story of Mellie and to help them remember what a GIFT it is to be able to hear, no matter how you hear! 🙂

Now feels like a good time to remind you to thank God for the things we often take so for granted, like hearing the sound around us! We are grateful for the gift of natural hearing, and are grateful for the gift that smart doctors have given to us through cochlear mplant technology!
