Ok, so maybe this isn’t a recipe for TRUE happiness, but it is a recipe for a little day-brightener! 🙂
I’m a major coffee fan. I honestly don’t know a ton of folks who don’t like coffee. It’s one of my favorite things ever, pretty much! I’m also a sucker for sugar and calorie filled coffee drinks that have basically no nutritional value… Because I’m such a fan, I thought about trying to come up with a recipe for an iced coffee drink that’s actually halfway good for you! This is my creation and it actually tastes pretty darn good!
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 cup of brewed coffee at room temp
1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 heaping tablespoon of cocoa powder (lots o’ antioxidants!)
2 tablespoons vanilla whey protein powder (I love Jillian Michaels’ version. It’s all natural!)
1 packet of stevia
Since the brewed coffee and stevia have 0 calories, and the rest of the ingredients are relatively low-calorie, according to my calculations, this one serving comes out to about 75 calories. Most of those calories come from the whey protein, but since it also provides a good 7 grams of proten plus some fiber, I’m saying those calories are WELL worth it!
To make the drink, simply place all of these ingredients into a mason jar with the lid screwed on tight, and shake, shake, shake! Feel free to dance around the kitchen as you shake. (You’ll end up burning a few of those 75 calories right there! Oh yeah!)
Once it’s well shaken, fill the mason jar to the top with ice, stick a straw in it, and enjoy your caffinated, protein and antioxidant-filled coffee drank! Mmmm Mmmm!
