Cocoa For Two + Top Christmas Movies

Cocoa For Two + The Best Christmas Movies // www.thehiveblog.com

Ok it is officially CHRISTMASTIME and I am so excited!! As some of you know, most of our Christmas decorations have been out for some time now… But we plan to tackle getting our real tree and outdoor decorations up this weekend!

One thing I love to do during the Christmas season is make hot cocoa from scratch! It’s very easy and it’s so much healthier than the packaged stuff (because it’s all natural), AND it just adds to the happy vibes of the season. It’s even BETTER when it’s enjoyed over a great Christmas movie! So I thought I’d share our (well, my) favorites! I’ll also share the cocoa recipe in a sec.

My top Christmas movie faves are…

A Charlie Brown Christmas //  I just love this little show, even if it is for kids! I especially appreciate it now that I have kids of my own who love watching it! It comes back to the real meaning of Christmas, and all to the beat of a killer original soundtrack!

Elf // This movie is the bomb! I’m sure most of you know this already… 🙂 I have the best memories associated with this movie because my college roomie for two years (what up, Kristin!) loves Christmas as much as I do, so we would always get a pre-Thanksgiving start on watching Christmas movies. Elf was the one we had playing in the background just about every morning as we were getting ready for class. Great quotable lines, great soundtrack, Will Ferrell, and it’s pretty clean!

Home Alone // Absolutely one of the best movies ever made, in my opinion! So many practical quotes that are appropriate for everyday life. Great movie quotes are everything! Also, Price showed me this entertaining little compilation featuring Harry and Marv and how many times they would have died had their injuries occurred in real life. Who knew the things you see in the movies aren’t true to real life?! 😉

Home Alone 2 // All of the above plus NYC! Did y’all know that The Plaza Hotel is offering a special package where guests can live like Kevin for a couple of nights? It sounds AWESOME!

Miracle on 34th Street // MAN I love this movie! I definitely like it more than Price does, but he’s still a fan. It’s just so magical 🙂 I’ve never seen the original, but I hope this remake makes the cast and crew of the original proud. I have to image it does because it’s just so good!

The Santa Clause // Such a clever movie! I love Tim Allen as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus, and the little boy in this movie is precious! And because of Tim, you know it’s hilarious!

Christmas Vacation // Ok, I hope y’all know by now that we are massive fans of this movie, as evidenced here, here, here, and here! I love every character, and the quotes are just the best! (Can you tell I really appreciate a quotable movie? ha!) If you have not watched this movie yet, PLEASE DO SO ASAP! Your Christmas will be better for it.

Trading Places // This is not a traditional Christmas movie, but since it takes place during the Christmas season, it counts in my book! Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd is all I need to say 🙂

The Holiday // This is one of my favorite movies of all time! I love the plot, the cast, the interior design of the homes, the music, the places in which the movie was set… All of this! Plus Arthur is the cutest and sweetest old man ever! The actor who played him (Eli Wallach) was a pretty big deal back in the old days, so I can’t help but think that many of Aruthr’s lines were inspired by the reality that the actor experienced back in his hey day. In looking for fun facts about the movie, I found this little list of behind-the-scenes tidbits that you might enjoy, too!

Ok so back to that cocoa! It really is very easy!

// C O C O A   F O R   T W O //

What you need

1/4 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

3 Tablespoons Sugar (I use Stevia in the Raw)

2 Pinches of Salt

2 Cups Milk (I use unsweetened Almond Milk)

1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

What you do

In a small sauce pan over low heat, combine about a half a cup of the milk with the cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and vanilla. Stir until everything is dissolved. Add the rest of the milk and heat until you reach desired warmth! (This does not take long. Maybe 3 or so minutes!)

Enjoy!!

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is my absolute favorite Christmas movie. It’s not Christmas without it.
