Easy Thanksgiving Table

Dear Diary,

WHAT A WEEK! I totally fell off the blogging train last week for several reasons, three of which were (1) our crazy travel day back to Mississippi last Monday where we almost didn’t make it because LAX is CRAY CRAY, (2) the fact that our internet was out for almost two days and I could get NO work done from home, and (3) the fact that I lost my credit card on Friday and someone else found it and used it 🙁 I blame my credit card drama with me forgetting to take any pants with me to Starkville to wear to the Mississippi State game on Saturday. Yeah, I got to Starkville and realized that I was pants less (because the pants I’d worn up there were super muddy. Why? Because they were the same pants I wore on Friday. On Friday night the kids and I went to Lexington to spend the night with family at the deer camp and I had to get out of my car and move a TREE out of the middle of the dirt road in order to actually get to camp. Since it had just stormed, the ground was disgusting and trees had fallen over…) So anyway, I had to go buy a pair of $8 jeans from Wal Mart so I could, oh, have pants to wear for the day… 🙂

The word “nightmarish” comes to mind every time I think about clips from the last 7 days of life. But every time I tried to throw myself a pity party, I remembered that cheesy saying about being too blessed to be stressed! As goofy as it is, that rung true with me all last week. Which made me doubly appreciate the fact that this week is THANKSGIVING week! So many wonderful things to be thankful for. All of the things that I let ruffle my feathers this week will be just faint memories in no time! Hakuna Matata!

Anyway… Thanks for letting me get all that off my chest! On to fun things!

Happy Friendsgiving!

Last night, we hosted the third annual Friendsgiving for our life group! (First annual recap here, second annual recap here!) We have the BEST life group in the world, so it was a complete blast! Not only are the people in our LG just really cool, but everyone is a great cook! The food spread last night was incred!! I think I’ll be stuffed for a while.

Because we had about 50 people here, we had to bring in some folding tables and dress them up a little bit so they’d look a tad cuter than, well, folding tables! I thankfully had enough table cloths for all of said folding tables, but since they all needed ironing and I wasn’t about to iron five table cloths, I put our roll of butcher paper to use by covering the top of each table!

To jazz them up just a little bit without spending much time or money, I cut greenery from three different plants in our yard and grouped bits of each plant running down the middle of each table. (On the smaller tables, I just did a clump rather than a runner!)

I added in some fresh cranberries (spent about $4 on those) and a bunch of whole and halved tangerines (which cost about $8!) I then took some chalk and wrote on the butcher paper on a few of the tables. Overall, it was pretty cute, considering I only spent $12 and very little time on all of it!

I also thought about including pinecones and little votive candles in with the tablescapes but decided against it since we had so many youngsters in the bunch who might’ve been tempted to “misuse” those two items. Ha! But for an adult Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving, that would be a great add in! There are a hundred ways you could vary up this simple idea! 🙂

Also, unrelated to table decorating but completely related to Thanksgiving and Christmas, I found this spiced tea recipe on a blog I like to peek in on and made it for Friendsgiving. It. Was. SO. Good! It is holiday in a cup! Highly recommend.

I hope all of you had a fantastic weekend and are enjoying cooler temps, some good food, and lots of time with the ones you love!! Thank you SO MUCH for dropping by today!! And remember– You’re too blessed to be stressed! 😉
