A Wild Rumpus

On Saturday, our little wild man turned a year old. I CAN.NOT believe how quickly that year flew by! I’m sitting here in amazement and thankfulness! How did God choose us to get to be his parents? How did that year go by so quickly? What will be Wilson’s next milestone? How does he know just the right moment to give me a really big hug and not seem to ever want to let go? I can’t get over all of the emotions that came with this first birthday… Definitely was not prepared for that! But thankful for all of them nonetheless. I also think pregnancy has something to do with it… šŸ˜‰

To celebrate W’s birthday, we had a little Where The Wild Things Are family get-together at our house! Price and I love that book even if Wilson isn’t quiiiite sure what’s going on with it yet! Ha! But it was really fun and I was so glad we kept it small!

I, as I’ve been known to do, got a little carried away with the theme.Ā But I had so much fun with it that I wouldn’t have traded a minute of working on the party for anything else!

A few of my fave details were…

… The invitation! Designing invitations for people I know and love is always a lot of fun for me. This one probably takes the cake as far as my favorite one to work on!

… The tree/plant wall! A tad time consuming but really fun for the crafter insideĀ me to put together!

(sorry for the blurry picture… This seems to be the only one I got of the whole wall! And the inspo for this wall came from here. << This girl’s turned out wayyyy cooler!)

… The blue punch (supposed to look water-ish) with a little boat (made from an apple) like what Max sailed away in to the land of the Wild Things!

The punch was super easy and super tasty! We froze 4 ice cube trays of the blue V8 Splash to make some ice cubes that wouldn’t water the mixture down as they melted, then used the rest of the V8 splash, a 2-liter of Sprite Zero, and a thing of White Grape Peach juice and mixed it all together!

… The cake. I threw myself a little pity party with some of my friends after I picked up the cake because it didn’t turn out how I expected, but in retrospect, it was great. It didn’t look very much like the picture I sent to the bakery, and I got grossly over charged for it, but then it all worked out! I was able to accept the way the cake looked because, although not what I expected, those little trees were pretty dang cute. And the day after the party, I had an email waiting in my inbox from the bakery owner saying she’s sorry that she over charged me and she was refunding almost half of the price! Plus the cake tasted awesome. So overall, it was a great cake! And making the cake topper was another fun craft for me!

… Wilson’s outfit. We got just some simpleĀ white separatesĀ for him to wear to closely match what Max wore in the book. I made a simple little tail out of gray felt and sewed it to the footed white pants and it turned out to be the cutest thing watching him walk around with that tail dragging behind him! I also made him a Max crown which only stayed on his head MAYBE a total of ten minutes the whole night… But it was fun while it lasted!

… The crown-shaped cookie party favors! I used these same cookie and icing recipes that have been my go-to for over a year now. Love these recipes! And I got the cookie cutter from this site which seems to have literally every cookie cutter ever dreamed up (for great prices!)

I have added a listing to my etsy shop for a $3 printable of the “I’ll eat you up” tags! Get to those here šŸ™‚ And here is a site where you can order some fabulous clear bags! You do have to order a minimum of 100 (but it’s only $6!) and I promise you’ll find tons of uses for these, should you have extras!

… Hot supper. In the book, Max got sent to his room without supper after telling his mom he’d eat her up. Then he went to the land of the wild things and after he returned, he found supper waiting on him in his room. And it was still hot! So we had some homemade tomato soup (I used this delicious recipe!) and grilled cheese sammies!

SUCH an adorable party!!! The sight of Wilson walking around with that tail has made me laugh at odd, random moments the last few days. All the details were perfection. I’m a proud mama & grandmary!!

Hey Melinda! I’m so sorry I’m slow in responding to you!! actually just free handed it! I saw a picture of one similar so I drew it and colored it on card stock with sharpie and taped it to a toothpick. Very simple! Good luck! šŸ™‚
