On The Healthy Trail

Since the day that I found out I’m pregnant, I’ve tried to start eating and snacking a little more healthily. I’ve always been semi healthy, but since I’m eating for two and trying to do everything I can to help promote health with the bebe, I’ve made a more concerted effort to stay on the healthy side when it comes to snacks and meals!

(Those of you who have seen me give into my queso dip — pasteurized, of course! — craving lately may disagree, but… I promise I’m trying!)

We all have our weak moments don’t we?! 🙂 Anyway, one of my favorite healthy snacks that I’ve started keeping in my purse with me is trail mix!

For those times when hunger strikes and I’m too busy to go make/buy something, or there’s nothing healthy available, I’ve found that having a healthy snack on hand is clutch!

And the beauty of homemade trail mix is that you can put just about anything in it!

Here are my favorite things to mix together!

My Pregnancy Today app (which I LOVE!) says that colorful fruits and veggies are pregnancy super foods, so getting some cranberry, strawberry, and banana in is great for me and the baby! It also says whole grains are a super food as well, so the flax cereal takes care of that! Raw nuts are a great source of protein, semi-sweet chocolate is a good source of antioxidants, and I’ve started adding unsweetened coconut just because one of my cravings has been coconut flavored stuff!

All of that mixed together tastes great (to me, anyway) and is a healthy alternative to getting fro-yo with a bunch of toppings or something processed at a convenience store! Plus, it’s easy to personalize! You can pretty much add whatever you want!

(Disclaimer: I am not claiming that this is low calorie, but it’s definitely high quality, which in my book is even more important!! Just a little palm-full goes a long way and fills me up just enough to fight off that hunger! So as long as you don’t eat gobs of this at a time, I’m saying it’s healthy! 😉 )

Do you like trail mix? What do you put in yours? I’d love to hear what y’all like!!
