It was about this time last year that my dear friend Avery and I made a weekend trip down to New Orleans for some much needed girl time. We spent one evening exploring Magazine Street and ended up finding a great little wine bar called Coquette.
I ordered a cocktail called The Coquette Collins that was likely one of the best, most interesting cocktails I’ve ordered in a long time. The menu listed the components of this divine drink so I made it my mission to create my own version of this bad boy. They now call this drink “The Mule,” so if you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend stopping in and trying it out!
Anyway, I’d love to share my recipe with you. If you like the taste of ginger, then this cocktail is for you! I call my version The Ginger Collins.
The Ginger Collins
3 mint leaves
1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
2 ounces Vodka
Juice from 1/4 a lemon
Yellow Chartreuse
Ginger Beer
Muddle the mint, simple syrup, and lemon juice in the bottom of an 8 to 12 oz. glass. Add vodka and a small amount of Chartreuse (I put about a teaspoon) then mix. Add ice and top with Ginger Beer. Garnish with mint.
It’s important to only put just a little bit of Yellow Chartreuse in the mix. This stuff is good, but a little goes a looong way. (And I’ll go ahead and warn you: Yellow Chartreuse is rather expensive, but it will last you for literally years!)
The best Ginger Beer I’ve found is made by Fever-Tree. It’s by far my favorite of the kinds I’ve tried. This cocktail tastes much better with this brand, in my opinion! 🙂
Hope you enjoy! CHEERS!
Love it! Ginger cocktails are the best! That was a delicious drink, and such a fun NOLA trip! Can’t wait for our next adventure…eek! 🙂
I’m SO EXCITED!!! 🙂
hands down one of my favorite places in nola! that coquette collins helped me get through my final grad school presentation 🙂
So glad you like it too Swayze! So glad they still serve it, even if it is under a different name on their menu now! 🙂
