[Tomato] Soup for the [Artistic] Soul

Earlier today I had to run into Target real quick to get a few of the necessities (dog food and mascara count as necessities, right?) when I spied out of the corner of my eye a soup can display. I mosied over there to get a closer look at what appeared to be a display of Campbell’s Tomato Soup cans in the style of Andy Warhol. Could this be real? I thought aloud. (Ok, I thought it silently, but that’s beside the point.)

The answer to my silently out loud question was Y E S !

These were real life cans modeled after the famous Andy Warhol soup can paintings! These are some of the cutest soup cans of all time! They had four different color combos on the cans, so naturally I bought one of each. Upon closer inspection of the display, I found out that these babies mark the 50th anniversary of the famous works.

To quote the can, “This year marks the 50th Anniversary of Andy Warhol’s 1962 iconic artwork 32 Campbell’s Soup Cans. These silk-screen paintings played a pivotal role in the emergence of the pop art genre. Warhol was particularly fond of Campbell’s soup, which was often the subject of his pieces. Join Campbell in celebrating these inspired works!”

Although I don’t know a whole lot about Mr. Warhol himself, I truly admire his artistic abilities and I love his sense of color. The man knew how to make a great looking piece of art! His revolver pieces and Marilyn Monroe pieces are some of my faves.
