Two Minute Update

Dempsey bean :)

Hey! I wanted to give you a two minute update on where we are with Dempsey! Let me start out by saying how much I love this easy-going, laid back child! He is truly a dream baby and God designed him PERFECTLY from his long little toes, to his little ears, to the tips of each of his little hairs!

Dempsey’s MRI came back normal so we are singing HUGE praises about that! This means he definitely CAN get cochlear implants when the time comes (which will hopefully be around six months of age. Currently he’s three months.)

In the meantime, he will be wearing hearing aids! We got these yesterday and got a tutorial on them from our amazing audiologist. She is seriously a dream. She’s so good at her job! The foundation that she started is loaning these hearing aids to us since we only need them for such a short period of time. Isn’t that cool that we didn’t have to invest in these, since we only need them for a few months?

Now that we have the hearings aids, I will say… They’re a bit cumbersome. I know we are only one day in and this will get easier, but right now, they’re a pain if I’m being completely honest! Ha! They fall off and the makeshift headband we are using to keep them on doesn’t work that well. We do, however, have some better headbands on order and they should be in next week.

The goal is for Dempsey bean to wear these 4-6 hours a day. So that is definitely doable! I’m just praying so hard for patience for me, for Price, for Wilson and Lily Ryan (because honestly they did get a little shorted on attention this morning due to the wrangling of the hearing aids), and for everyone caring for Dempsey outside of our family! Today, I pray so hard for his teachers at school and that they would be patient with him! I know having a deaf baby in their class is not what they signed up for, but because God is all up in the details, the two teachers in his room happen to be very sweet girls who have babysat for us before in years past! So I feel more comfortable with and connected to them than I would with most other teachers. If that makes sense 🙂

Thank you so much for thinking about us and praying for us during all of this. We still count our blessings every single day and are grateful that God chose us to be the parents of our three cool kids! I’m excited to “boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses” so that God’s glory can be seen! (2 Corinthians 12:9)

// How cute is that picture of the sleepy bean at Lily Ryan’s birthday party? Captured by the fabulous Rachel Watters. He got a great nap despite the craziness around him that morning! ha! More photos of this fun day forthcoming 🙂 //

Much love and Xs and Os!

Oh Laurel, I enjoy your thoughts and writings about Baby Dempsey. I feel as if you have taught us about the hearing loss in newborns and small children. Learning from you has been helpful and enlightens. Please keep us in the loop. Our prayers are with you and giving strength and keeping your sense of humor. We love you and want to help in any way.

God will use this for Dempsey to later really be able to witness God and how he can heal people! Just watch! God is amazing! He will be a better Christian bc of it and one day really help others get to know Jesus!
