19 Hours In NOLA

A couple of weekends ago, Price and I took a whirlwind trip down to New Orleans to celebrate my 30th! We were in the city for a total of 19 hours, but we made the most of those 19 hours! Our trip revolved around a show we got tickets to on that Sunday night. Here’s how the trip went down.

S U N D A Y

7:31 a.m. Leave our house in Madison headed for Ridgeland to my best friend’s parents’ house, who were keeping Wilson until my parents made it back in town from their weekend trip to Starkville.

7:58 a.m. Depart Ridgeland headed southward for the Big Easy with our new fave song (Brother by Needtobreathe feat. Gavin DeGraw) basically on repeat.

11:00 a.m. Arrive in NOLA and head straight for our favorite brunch destination in all the land: Elizabeth’s in Bywater. There, we consumed bloody marys, the famous Elizabeth’s Praline Bacon, some deloicious (as Jean-Ralphio would say) Banana Praline French Toast for me, some breakfast burrito for Price, and a side of grits to share.

12:23 p.m. Head to The W in the quarter to check in. (Staying here has been on my bucket list and it was amaze balls!)

12:44 p.m. Leave car with valet because the room won’t be ready til 3:00. Set out on foot to walk off Elizabeth’s and make ourselves hungry for the next meal: Burgers at Port of Call. We strolled through The Quarter, stopped into some antique shops, browsed through all of the street artists’ wares, listened to some fun N’awlinsy music, checked out some art shops…

1:38 p.m. Receive text from mama that Wilson has grown in the past two days (meaning she is now back in town and has him in her possession.) Good deal!

2:54 p.m. Buy Wilson a bib from a local baby store that has a chew toy attached to it. (GENIUS)

3:14 p.m. Stop into The Monteleone for a refreshment. A French 75 for me. An Abita Strawberry for the gentleman. Oh, and some waters. “Do you have some more Chex Mix stuff please?”

3:45 p.m. Head for Esplanade on the far size of The Quarter where Port of Call is located.

3:57 p.m. Spot a bit of graffiti that we think might be Banksy. Ok, it’s not. But it looks like it! Moving on…

4:01 p.m. Reach Port of Call and get our names on the list. (Thankfully since we were there at an odd hour, the wait was only about 10 minutes. But we’ve waited two hours before. And it’s been worth every single bite every single time!)

4:02 p.m. Order monsoons. These are the signature drink at Port of Call and they are, again I use the word, DELOICIOUS.

4:14 p.m. We are seated. We don’t even need a menu. We each know we want a burger with cheese and bacon. Price gets his baked potato on the side with everything but chives. I go all in on mine. “You can give me his chives please!”

4:17 p.m. Upon completing our ordering, I say to myself, “What are calories?”

5:02 p.m. Catch a cab back to the hotel.

5:15 p.m. Get checked in and go up to our room.

5:24 p.m. Catch a power nap.

6:05 p.m. Start cleaning up and getting ready for the show.

7:11 p.m. Set out on foot at a leisurely pace to see Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally’s show.

7:43 p.m. Arrive at the show.

8:00 p.m. Watch the show. Laugh some. Wish I hadn’t heard some stuff. Laugh some more. Tell myself I probably won’t recommend this to friends. BUT. It was cool to see Nick Offerman in person!

9:23 p.m. Leave the show and walk back to The W.

9:49 p.m. Walk into SoBou (the restaurant at The W) for a late bite to eat. GREAT food! And such a beautiful atmosphere. (Of course I didn’t take pictures of one of my favorite spots of the trip… WHAT was I THINKING?!)

10:57 p.m. Head on up to the room

11:03 p.m. CRASH

M O N D A Y

5:30 a.m. Alarm goes off.

5:31 a.m. Coffee goes on. Getting ready/dressed begins.

5:51 a.m. Call valet to have car ready.

5:58 a.m. Check out of the hotel while simultaneously refilling coffee cup.

6:00 a.m. Leave that gorgeous stayplace while the rest of the city snoozes soundly. (I’m jealous of them.)

8:49 a.m. Arrive back in Madison just in time to make it to work.

<< This is officially the end of the trip. >>

The rest of the day consisted of work, then picking Wilson up post-work and realizing just how much I missed him! (It was my first night away from him.) After working on the house and getting Wilson situated in bed, we crashed early that night.

With our beloved NOLA in our dreams 🙂
