I think we can agree that having a well-established nighttime routine helps all of us to sleep better! No matter what your age, being able to go through a few familiar moves every night before bed makes for the best nights of sleep! We have really found this to be true with our kiddos!
The book I talked about in this post, 12 Hours’ Sleep by 12 Weeks, really puts a lot of emphasis on establishing a nightly routine for your newborns. Lily Ryan is doing great with her routine, and Wilson is still enjoying his at 18 months!
Our routine is basically the same for both babies:
Eat supper, bathe, put on a nighttime diaper, put on pajamas, read a book, pray together, and give goodnight kisses.
We are particularly loving The Honest Company’s Ultra Calming Lavender Shampoo and Body Wash for bath time. The lavender scent is very relaxing, which is what you want for right before bed, and the fact that it is free from any bad ingredients just allows me to breathe easy!
Also from Honest, their new(ish) nighttime diapers are the bomb! Our babies are big drinkers which means they’re big pee-ers… And when you don’t get a diaper change for 12 hours, a sturdy overnight diaper is a MUST. Plus, the cute sheep pattern is an added bonus! We’ve just added these on to our diaper bundles that get delivered each month. I truly love the Honest diapers because they’re cute, they are free of any harsh chemicals, they’re plant based, and they’re designed to be extra comfortable! Also, unrelated to the nighttime routine but related to the bundles since each diaper bundle comes with four free packs of wipes: I LOVE how Honest does the wipes now in those reclosable containers. Thank you, Honest!
Wilson particularly loves reading right before bed. These are his current favorite reads! He could read 20 books before bed if there was time for it. He just loves a good book, and we are so thankful for that!! He also loves to play in his teepee or just run around and expend some extra energy before or after book time!
We pray for Lily Ryan before we put her down and give her her kisses, and we pray with Wilson right before we put him down and give him his kisses! He’s started saying “Ah-MIN” at the end of each prayer with us! It is so much fun watching your kids grow up little by little! We pray that our babies will be little people after God’s own heart from the earliest ages possible 🙂
Once each baby is set with a wubbanub, sound machine going, and a stuffed animal (or 20 for Wilson), then they’re down for the night! And we are free to do whatever we want/need to do for a few hours before we get our own nighttime routines on and get cozied into the bed!
I hope all of you are having a great week so far. And if you have any great tips on night time routines for kids (or for yourself!) then I’d love to hear!! Thanks so much for dropping in today. Hope you have a great rest of the day!
