A Weekend in Tunica, Mississippi

A couple of weekends ago, my husband and I took a little weekend trip with two other couples to Tunica, Mississippi (of ALL places) and, despite what I was honestly expecting, actually had the best time!

I had never spent any time in Tunica so, again being honest, I wasn’t too fired up about the actual town. The folks I was going to be with did get me excited, but not so much the thought of Tunica

After a good, solid 24 hours in this small Mississippi map dot, I’m here to report that Tunica is FUN!

We drove up to Tunica (and back) through the always-fascinating Mississippi Delta, which provided some fantastic sight seeing.

Delta Geese. Literally thousands of them!

Delta Geese. Literally thousands of them! They were beautiful!

When we got to Sam’s Town Casino where we were staying, we got settled into the room and met up with our friends! From there we killed a few minutes before heading over to Hollywood Cafe for dinner!

This picturesque little Delta eatery, actually located in a cotton field, serves up some of the best Fried Pickles you’ll ever put in your mouth. They claim to be the “Home of the Fried Dill Pickle,” and I might have to agree with them that they are divine! They get an A+ on all food… Even the starter salad was extra delish! Don’t even get me started on the filet!

After a lovely evening with friends, food, and lots of twinkle lights, we bid farewell to Hollywood (Cafe, that is), and headed back to Sam’s Town for the main event of the night: Lee Brice in CONCERT!

Goodbye Hollywood!

Lee Brice in Tunica, MS

Ok. Confession. I knew we were going to see Lee Brice in concert on this trip, but I had no idea what this dude sang. I knew he was a country singer, but that was it.

Come to find out, I knew like every other song he sang!! And he was phenomenal! Quite the performer and a heck of a singer and songwriter if I do say so myself…

I was thankful to our friends Jeremy and Elizabeth for convincing us to accompany them to this little concert, even though the other four of us knew little to nothing about who we were going to see. Very good call on seeing Lee Brice. VERY.

After some good music, we headed to the casino floor to try our hand at a few table games. Blackjack for the ladies, Poker for the gentlemen. After we’d decided to leave all that to others, we hit up the Snack Bar at the casino then headed to bed.

That next morning was… Wait for it…

A trip to the BLUE AND WHITE RESTAURANT!

I’ve heard the main men in my life rave about this little joint, which is part of their yearly Tunica duck hunting trips. But I myself had never been. On this trip, that changed. And so did my life…

Ok maybe not really my life… But it was a good breakfast! The Blue and White Restaurant is in an old gas station and all the floors, chairs, and tables are–you guessed it– blue and white! Bonus: They had really cute coffee mugs.

I got the pancake breakfast and loved it. I also loved that we were the only people in there who weren’t decked from head to toe in camo. We were also some of a very few who weren’t smoking. Yes, they do still allow smoking inside, but it kinda makes you feel like you’ve taken a step back in time, which isn’t a bad thing, right?!

After breakfast, we began the two-hour drive home, laughing about funny things that had happened over the course of our quick little trip. We had a blast, and I highly recommend taking some time to explore the random town of Tunica when you have a free weekend!

Have you ever eaten at any of the restaurants we visited?
Or seen Lee Brice live?!
I NEED DETAILS!
