Dining Room Update

When we bought our house almost five years ago, we knew we had a lot of projects, both big and little, in front of us for the next several years. Fortunately, I think we only have one big project left (and that is to redo our kitchen!) along with a few more little projects.

One of the projects I really wanted to check off the list was getting our dining room finished. There were three things I really wanted our dining room to have: (1) drapery, (2) a new chandelier, and (3) a table large enough to seat 10 to 12. I am THRILLED to share that we have checked all three of those off our list!

With our family of five, plus extended family, we had run out of room with our table that seated just six! Price and I LOVE having people over, and of course always want people to be comfortable, so we thought it was a good time to invest in a larger table and more chairs. We have really enjoyed this lengthy dining table and these cute little Frenchy bistro chairs along the sides. And I still cannot believe what an incredible price our two head chairs from Anthro are!

The drapery is from SummerHouse and I LOVE how it turned out! You might remember me mentioning it in this post, but custom drapery is SOOOO worth the splurge. It just elevates a space SO MUCH. This drapery is a sheer lined sheer, so it’s very simple and subtle, but adds so much softness, texture, and warmth to the room. Although it is functional drapery, I don’t ever see us closing it!

My FAVORITE thing about our dining room update is the CHANDELIER! The old one in here was just really gross, if I can be completely blunt! ha! (You can catch a glimpse of it + how I arranged our wall library in this post.) The new chandelier is from a fantastic company that I’ve admired for years called Stray Dog Designs. I fell in love with Stray Dog while working at SummerHouse. I have a Stray Dog lamp in our entry and it’s one of my favorite things in the house, so when they agreed to work with me on our dining room update, I was beyond thrilled. I love how it turned out!

The cool thing about Stray Dog is that all of their pieces are handmade in Mexico. They have such a whimsical, modern style that I think mixes so well with classic pieces to create an awesome look. Our chandelier (called Serena) is paper mâché with a glossy white paint. I just adore it!

Stray Dog pieces can be special ordered through SummerHouse, so if you’re interested in ordering locally, I highly recommend contacting a SH designer!

Since I know you’re probably wondering, the thing hanging from the ceiling in the above photo is a driftwood dragon! Price’s grandmother was a fantastic artist and would find cool pieces of driftwood, paint them, make wings out of paper mâché, and add line to them so they could be little hanging fixtures. I think it’s so quirky and cool, and such a great memory of quirky and cool Ri! 🙂

We really got to enjoy our updated space for Christmas gatherings this year, and I look forward to many more friend and family gatherings in the near future! 🙂

HUGE thanks to Stray Dog Designs for making this post possible. I hope you have a fantastic day! xo!
