Dooley Day

Happy Thursday, my friends! I hope you have had an incredible week so far šŸ™‚

Today I wanted to check in and talkĀ about my little brother Ryan, who we called Dooley, today and remember his vibrant life, give thanks for Jesus Christ and the fact that Dooley loved him, and carry on his legacy by celebrating his home going date, which was today 16 years ago. Sixteen years! I cannot even believe it!!

Many of you knew (or knew of) Dooley, but many of you didn’t! I got the unique opportunity earlier this year to share about how Dooley’s car accident and death so many years ago changed my outlook on life, so I shared it in this postĀ in hopes of God speaking to maybe even just one of you through those difficult circumstances.

Every year I love going back and reading old “Dooley Day” posts, so I’ll link a couple here, here, and here!

Last night we had a little Dooley Day celebration, as we strive to do every year in some form or fashion, over food from Amerigo! (YURM! Thanks, Mama and Daddy for procuring!) We hung out and laughed and played MonikersĀ and watched the kiddos run around painting each other, walls, paper, etc, while having hilarious conversations (toddler convos are THE BEST!) It was a good time that I think Dooley would’ve really enjoyed šŸ™‚ Ā We voted Monikers a game that Dooley would’ve certainly been really good at!

Here’s a pic of my handsome little bro. Isn’t he the cutest?

Dooley Miller's Homegoing Celebration

I still have and wear that very shirt šŸ™‚

As you go about your day today, I challenge you to pinpoint just one thing about at least one person in your life that you’re thankful for, then tell that person why it is you’re especially thankful! We are not promised tomorrow, or even five minutes from now, so live thankfully. Tell your people you love them. I promise you won’t regret it!

Thanks so much for stopping in. I so appreciate you taking the time to visit! Love you guys! XO!

I remember like it was yesterday. And I remember your mom giving her testimony on the big screen at Broadmoor. I’ll never forget her saying,”I cannot imagine NOT having the personal relationship I have with Jesus Christ while going through something so awful.” That has stuck with me for 16 years. It reminds me daily to not put God on a back burner.

Laurel, I love how you always remember Dooley in such fun ways. Dooley was such a fun person. I loved that boy like he belonged to me! He was such a great friend to all of us. I remember a funny when all the youth kids were at the Grandparents for New Years and Dooley was sitting on the couch and moved over and started doing a real small plait in AG’s hair. As I watched him work, I also realized he was drooling in her hair. It was so funny. We all love and miss Dooley and we love how all of you ministered to us and so many people during that time.
The Miller family is such a blessing and example to all of us! Love you bunches!!!

Vicki, Iā€™m glad I donā€™t have to cringe over knowing my children made a habit of raiding your fridge & pantry. But thatā€™s only because I know you!! Thanks for always welcoming them & loving on them. šŸ’‹šŸ’‹šŸ’‹

This makes my heart swell reading this! Still impressed he could braid! But if I remember it right he was drooling but I didnā€™t even know it until the drool hit my nose!!! The Concentration ; )!!!

On another note, Weā€™ve recently lost a family pet and Wyatt has been asking a lot of questions about life and death and burial. I was able to share with him about my friend, Dooley as we drove down highland colony the other day and that awful bump that use to be right before Madison ave heā€™d always hit his head on the ceiling at! So now Wyatt asks me about Dooley when we pass down highland colony!

Still love that guy and miss him! He was the greatest and Iā€™ll never forget his spirit and curiosity (firehydrant comes to mind)!!!!

Dooley loved his sis & broā€¼ļø THANK EWE LAUREL for always remembering him on his Homegoing day!!! Lee reminded me of something else I said on the video at church: ā€˜A crisis is not a good time to learn new things. Best to prepare for a crisis before it happens.ā€™ Yes, leaning confidently on what I understood well of Godā€™s character made all the difference.
