Healthy Daily Habits + A Giveaway!

Since staying healthy is so important — something that is too often taken for granted until you get sick! —  I thought I would share a few of my daily health tips with y’all (and maybe incentivize you to keep up with your daily health routine if you read all the way to the bottom! Wink, wink! 😉 )

There are several things I do on a daily/weekly basis that, for me, make staying healthy fairly easy! I’ll share a few very basic tips on incorporating health into your daily and weekly routines!

(1) Drink your coffee black.

No sugar, no creamer. Just black. It’s an acquired taste, but it saves so many calories! Just think about it… If you add 50 calories to each cup of coffee, and you have two a day, that’s 100 extra calories. 700 extra per week. That translates into POUNDS over the course of a year!

I’m loving THIS coffee these days. It’s inexpensive and bold. Two of the best things coffee can be!

(2) Take a multi vitamin. I prefer the gummy kind… 🙂

(3) Carry healthy snacks with you!

How many times are you out running errands or stuck at work and you get super hungry? Be prepared for this scenario by having healthy snacks in your purse/car/briefcase! I almost always have a banana, an extra protein bar, or a bag of raw almonds with me. (Sidenote: When I asked the girls at Colorize the best way to grow out your hair in the healthiest way possible, they said to add more protein to your diet. So not only is protein good for the muscles, it’s great for your hair!)

(4) WATER, WATER, WATER!

Your body is made up mostly of water, so to keep your body feeling fresh and energized at all times, it is so important to drink lots of water! I take an extra big cup with me to work and refill it as many times a day as I can! Sure, it makes you pee more, which makes you get up more, which is also great for your body! At work, our offices are upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs, so I’m going up and down a flight of stairs every time! Great way to burn a few extra calories. With that being said…

(5) Take the stairs when possible.

Remember how I mentioned those extra calories with the coffee? Well, you can also burn extra calories with small changes in your day, which also translates into POUNDS over the course of a year!

(6) Have gym clothes in your car at all times.

I will admit, since I’ve had a baby, finding time to work out is SO much harder. Thank goodness for a husband and mom who are supportive of me staying in shape! I just have to schedule a little further in advance now! 😉 But my favorite workout is definitely Pure Barre. It’s 55 minutes of intense, focused training. It may look girly, but it. is. TOUGH! I always hurt so good the day after a great barre workout. And to make it easier, I keep a bag with my Pure Barre gear in it in my car all the time. I never have the excuse of, “oh I forgot my clothes…” They’re already in there! And for those of you who may just find yourself with an extra hour on your hands, having clothes handy will be a little extra motivation to get to the gym.

(7) Eat more salad.

I’ve found that if I replace just a few meals a week with a BIG SALAD (said Elaine Benes style), I just feel better in general. Extra veggies and lean meat never hurt anybody. And I love a good vinaigrette, which is usually a fairly light option anyway. My favorite local salads as of late are the Bistro Salad at Anjou and the Sombra Salad from Sombra! I always add grilled chicken. YURM!

(8) Have cute workout clothes.

This will make you want to put them on and go get active so people can see your fun new gear! How cute are these times, all from Athleta?

    I love ALL of these tips!! I have grand plans to cut out the Starbucks, but I haven’t done it yet… I really really need to. I can’t do the black coffee, so I am just going to eliminate it. Also, I am dying to take a Pure Barre class!!
