My Road Trip Essentials

All of this warmer weather we’ve had here in MS lately is making me get really excited for SUMMER! Is anybody with me?!

Since we have two beach trips booked for this upcoming summer, I’ve really been putting a lot of thought into road trip essentials!

We got traveling with one kid down pat, but traveling with two seems to be a whole different ballgame!

With changes like an extra carseat, a double stroller, twice the diapers, an extra pack-n-play… It seems like we are going to need to be a lot more careful about packing this summer versus last!

We are actually sort of in the market for a larger vehicle because, with two car seats, my 4Runner is all of the sudden really cramped! When the four of us try to go somewhere in my car, it’s one packed ride, partly because Price and I are just so tall!

Since I’ve been doing a lot of road trip planning in my mind recently, I thought now was a good opportunity to write it all down! Turo, a really cool rental car company, asked me to share my road trip essentials as part of a series they’re doing! Y’all should check out Turo by the way! They have a great site where anyone can list their car for rent!

Other than being double darn sure I have everything we need for babies, my essentials are as follows:

1. Plenty of snacks!

I’m an unapologetic snack lover. If I’m awake, I’m probably no further than an hour away from a snack. A few of my favorite snacks these days are purple grapes, ThinkThin bars protein bars, Pirate’s Booty, apples, Krave jerkyBark Thins (are y’all familiar? OMG! My FAVORITE!), homemade Chex Mix, or really any form of chocolate. Some of these are healthy, some are not. You gotta keep it interesting! 😉

2. A killer playlist.

A few of our favorite songs to jam out in the car to are…

My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark
Radioactive
Sail (check out these fun remixes!)
Empire State of Mind
Hall of Fame
All I Do Is Win
Electric Feel
Soul Survivor
Here I Go Again
Africa
Run This Town

These are just a few of our go-tos… I’d love to hear yours!!

3. An extra phone charger.

I have a MyCharge portable charger and I absolutely LOVE it because you don’t have to plug it in to use it! You charge it before you leave home, then you have several hours of juice for your phone available right there in your purse. This thing has come in handy on a weekly basis for me since it bought it last summer. I highly recommend having one, especially for travel!

4. A go-with-the-flow attitude.

If anybody else’s travels are like ours, we rarely leave on time, rarely make as few stops as we plan, usually hit some sort of crazy traffic situation, or forget something important and either have to turn around and go back home or stop in a town with a Target to buy whatever said forgotten item is. If you’ve got a rigid attitude, your trip ain’t gonna be fun. Plain and simple. But if you have a go-with-the-flow one and don’t put too much pressure on yourself to get somewhere by a certain time, then your trip will be much more enjoyable!

5. An extra pillow.

I love having my own feather down pillow on road trips because you never know what sort of pillow situation you’ll end up with in a hotel or rental house! (Yes, I’m a pillow snob.) But before you reach your destination, if you get tired and get a chance to nap, having a good pillow available makes your nap more quality, thus making better use of the few minutes you have to catch a snooze! 😉

6. A good book or some magazines.

I use time in the car (when I’m not driving, of course!) to catch up on some good old fashioned reading! Among my favorite magazine reads are House Beautiful, Milieu, and Porter! Gotta stay up on the trends! 😉

What do you folks require when road tripping? I’d love to hear! Also– who has fun road trips planned for Spring Break or summer vacation?! Feed my wanderlust!! 😉

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope all of you are having an incredible week!! XOXO!
