A Non-Girly Margarita

Hey, it’s Price (Laurel’s husband) here again this month taking over the Colony Wine Market cocktail post for July since she is thankfully still with child and unable to really do cocktails at the moment.

This month, I wanted to try something a little outside of my regular catalogue and go with a margarita. Because it’s hot outside and a margarita just sounds refreshing.

But not just any margarita. A macho one. Normally, margaritas don’t really appeal to me with their lime green color and their overly sweet nature. I don’t know a whole lot of men who “crave chocolate” or “need something sweet right now” like my wife and so many other women do. Similarly, I’ll also leave the super sugary margaritas to the ladies.

I got up with Scott at Colony Wine Market and we discussed the making of a manly margarita. It doesn’t have any of the fake lime green mix or any extra sweetness or sugar. And (Laurel was surprised by this fact) Scott didn’t really recommend that much lime juice go into this thing. He perfected the dude-friendly margarita, I tested and approve, so now here we are to share it with you.

For a single serving, you need:

Juice from 1/2 medium lime

1 tablespoon agave nectar (We used Tres Agaves from Colony Wine Market)

2 ounces good clear tequila (We used el Jimador from CWM)

(There’s a cheat sheet in this post that turns ounces into tablespoons/cups.)

Do not use simple syrup, do not use any mixes, and do not “over lime” your drink. Put all of those ingredients into a shaker with crushed ice and shake pretty hard.  Strain it into a salt rimmed glass and drink immediately. It’s really good, not too sweet, and it’s not girly looking.

Men, I think you’re gonna like this. Try it, then let my wife know how you like it on instagram or in the comments because I don’t do social media. Or better yet, tell Scott when you’re at Colony Wine Market buying the ingredients.

Cheers
