Talking Italian + A Giveaway!

So two weeks ago, because I love food so much, I started a little mini giveaway series about some of my favorite local restaurants! I talked about Anjou (a fabulous French restaurant) here and did a little giveaway for a gift certificate to there! Today, I want to talk Italian and give you the opportunity to win a gift card to an amazing Italian joint!

Amerigo is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the Jackson area. Hands down! I can remember my parents going to Amerigo with their friends when we were really little. (I actually have a specific memory of my mama telling our babysitter that that’s where she and my dad were going out for a dinner date!) And I remember them taking us when we got a little older and more well behaved in public!

My parents would always save room for the tiramisu for dessert, which I couldn’t fully appreciate until I was probably in high school. It’s for a slightly more sophisticated palette… A tough sell for a young kid… But OH, have I turned into my mother as I’ve gotten older… Now, I don’t go to Amerigo without saving room for a serving of that succulent dessert! “It’s world famous,” as mama says! It’s even been made into grooms’ cakes before! Does that not sound (and look) heavenly?!

When I met Price and I started showing him around the food scene of Jackson, I remember the start of his ongoing love affair with the cheese fritters there. He loves them so much that they were one of the main menu items at his surprise 30th birthday party! And they were a huge hit with everyone– Not just the birthday boy!

I think a lot of people who grew up eating Amerigo have some pretty nostalgic ties to the restaurant. It’s been around for as long as I can remember and holds a really special place in my heart, and I know I’m not alone!

Because of the nostalgia that it conjures up in so many Jackson natives, Amerigo has a GREAT catering setup! They cater rehearsal dinners and weddings like it’s going out of style because so many brides and grooms want to have their favorite restaurant be a part of their special day! (Sometimes I wish I could marry Price all over again so I could have a whole nother reception – like with Amerigo food!)

My friend Anne Marie, the director of marketing at Amerigo, said they actually started pushing off-site catering because they’d get so many calls to do rehearsal dinners and their restaurant doesn’t have a private room to accommodate large parties! Rather than turn people away, they decided to really kick catering into high gear and take the restaurant to the client! I know having Amerigo food at certain events has made those events extra special for the honorees!

What do I NOT love about Amerigos?!?! Do I have to really pick just 1 thing I love?? Hmmm…. The ravioli is totally my “go to”!

I love the three cheese tortellini with lump crab meat! I miss Amerigo dearly since we moved to Hattiesburg! They need a Hattiesburg location 🙂

They have a great early-bird menu! I didn’t have anything ready for dinner the other night (and no time to cook) so my husband called in an order from the early-bird menu and brought it home. The food was delicious, I didn’t have to clean the kitchen afterward, and we had plenty of time to eat before we had to leave the house!

I’m with Price – the cheese fritters complete me! And their lasagna is TDF!

Amerigo is our favorite restaurant! We love to dine in for early bird but also call in orders to pick up a lot. Sometimes when we call, Jason asks if we want the usual and says it will be ready soon and you know the drill, which makes us feel special that he knows who we are and our normal routine. Can’t name a single bad experience!!

Three cheese tortellini with lump crab meat, no question! So delicious! And of course their bread is amazing! Plus I love that they have locations in Nashville, Cool Springs, and (coming soon!) Flowood!

I love everything at Amerigos! Especially the cheese fritters.

Grilled salmon over black bean corn salsa when I’m behaving, veal piccata when I’m not. Always a perfect place for a bloody mary, or a crisp glass of white, a bold glass of red wine, or a fresh squeezed grapefruit & vodka. My favorite restaurant/watering hole with the best employees who are more like friends.

I love Amerigos! They have authentic Italian food and are one of the few restaurants that have veal marsala and great Tiramisou.

Although I have never been to Amerigos to experience an impeccable dining experience, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard awesome things about it. Italian food is one of my favorites, so I’m anxious to go and experience it and let you know what I think. BUT more importantly, I want to take my mother who has always desired to go and for whatever reason, I never get around to it. I’ve always been told that you should give people their “roses” while they are still living. With that being said, I’ve been working on that “bucket list” for her this year. It started this year with a surprise retirement and birthday party. She was overwhelmed with emotion and so surprised at the people that I had found and had agreed to attend the special occasion. Now, it’s time that I treat her to Amerigos.

I have heard a lot about their pasta, so I’d love to try and shrimp as well.

Honestly, I have never been but would love to try it. Having a real sit down family meal would be great for my family. No homework, office work, and absolutely no electronic devices. I would love family time that’s not in the car running to activities. Thanks for a chance.

I LOVE that they offer gluten free pasta. Of course, their tiramisu is amazing!

Amerigo is one of my favorite restaurants for their goat cheese penne. Oh my gosh it’s devine. And of course the tiramisu!!
