WINE AND DINE

Have you ever had a meal so good that you think about it weeks, months, or maybe even years later?! I’ve had a few of those meals. One was in Oxford, England when my friend Lindsey and I ate this amazing duck dish with a flavorful orange sauce drizzled over it, and we drank with it a heavy red wine.

Another was when my mom and I went to Chicago to celebrate my 21st birthday and it was the first time I’d had pizza and wine together. The pizza had this incredible thick crust and it had all of our favorite toppings on it, and we had this ice cold, buttery white wine with it and MAN WAS IT GOOD!!

There are several of these epic meals I have in my head, the memories of which circle back around fairly often! My first ever steak at Ruth’s Chris, a gyro from Kiefer’s with their feta dressing and a really cold beer… I could go on and on and on! Another one of those meals is one that our whole family enjoyed together just a few weeks ago. Wilson has actually asked for me to recreate the food portion of this meal twice already!

It was fairly simple– we had a charcuterie tray paired with this fantastic red Italian wine, Villa Giada Suri Barbera d’Asti. It was SO good with all the different meats and cheeses. I guess an italian wine would have to be good with meat and cheese, right?! 😉

Then for the main course, we had a fantastic penne pasta dish with an olive oil sauce, olives, chicken, a little bit of artichoke, some peas, some part, and a little bit of italian seasoning. The white wine that Scott from Colony Wine Market paired with it for me was out.standing. I’m serious, it was one of the most memorable pairings ever for me!! The wine came in a super cool looking bottle, so that was a bonus, too! This wine was a French wine called Muscadet. Y’all. Please try this stuff, even if you don’t like whites!

The guys at Colony Wine Market are SO good at steering me in the right direction whenever I need help with a pairing. Let them help you out next time, too! They always have a great selection. Wine shopping there is just really fun! 🙂

Very few things beat a good meal with good people. Right?! What is one of the most memorable meals you’ve ever had? I would love to hear in the comments below!
